Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell on Wednesday described as arbitrary the US attitude to tighten its economic sanctions on Cuba by enforcing extraterritorial laws.
In an interview granted to Television Española, Borrell referred to US President Donald Trump’s decision to activate Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, which further tightens Washington’s blockade of Cuba.
According to the head of Spanish diplomacy, the full enforcement of the Helms-Burton Act, which came into force on May 2, 2019, is another example of the lack of cooperation by the Government of the United States.
It is the adoption of extraterritorial measures that in our opinion constitute an ‘abuse of power’, the Spanish foreign minister stressed.
