#Cuba: Military Parade at Plaza de la Revolucion Chaired by #RaulCastro

Cuban President Raul Castro chaired today the military and civil parade to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the arrival in Cuba of the Granma yacht on December 2nd, 1956.

The military parade began with the firing of 21 gun salute and the national anthem of Cuba.

The parade opened with a representation of the most important moments of the founding and consolidation of the Cuban nation, including a group that paid homage to the mambi fighters, symbol of the struggle against the Spanish colonialism.

After a year of intense work that is fired today, new challenges will come with 2017 and much struggle for the new generations of Cubans, stressed the youth leader, Susely Morfa.

The year in which the UJC will be 55 April could not have a better start than the military parade and march of the fighting people next Monday in Havana, told the first secretary of the Union of Young Communists (UJC) to the Cuban News Agency.

In that sense, she considered an honor and a sign of confidence that this activity in tribute to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro is also dedicated to the youth and the 60 years after the uprising of the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba, the landing of the yacht Granma and the Revolutionary Armed Forces.

Preparations continue for the January 2 military parade and popular march in Havana, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Granma expedition’s landing and the heroic uprising in Santiago de Cuba, Revolutionary Armed Forces Day, in honor of Fidel and Cuba’s youth, according to organizers.

Appearing on Cuban television’s Mesa Redonda news show, Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) Colonel Jorge Luis Velázquez offered details of what has been planned for the city’s historic José Martí Plaza de la Revolución, beginning at 7:00am, January 2, 2017.

The officer reported that significant moments in Cuban history will be recalled during the parade, with the inclusion of a mambi cavalry unit, a replica of the Granma yacht, Rebel Army columns, and internationalist combatants, as well as the children’s theater company La Colmenita.
