The High-Level Segment of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) Council of Ministers 22nd Ordinary Meeting, which held sessions yesterday at the Habana Libre Tryp hotel, was a positive space to support the strengthening process of the Association and the commitment and agreements countersigned in the Declaration and Action Plan of Havana, adopted in the 7th Summit of the Association, held in June 2016, in the Cuban capital.
The participant delegations recognized the work of the ACS Secretary General and Cuba, as pro tempore president of the Association’s Council of Ministers, during the 2016-2017 period.
The initiatives regarding the announcement of the First Cooperation Conference, the training programs linked to the comprehensive disaster risk management implemented in the Caribbean and the struggle against climate change were considered relevant, as well as the actions displayed by the Technical Working Group as a mechanism for the consolidation and revitalization of the Association’s work.
The candidatures for the next Executive Boards of the Council of Ministers and that of the Special Committees were prepared, in addition to the Council of National Representatives of the Special Fund and the Caribbean Sea Commission for the 2017-2018 period, to be submitted for approval in the 22nd Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers, on March 10.
The High-Level meeting paid tribute to the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz, whose legacy defending the Caribbean people’s cooperation and integration was present throughout the event.
The 22nd High-Level Preparatory Meeting joined the Haitian people and Government in the pain for the decease of the Haitian former President René García Préval, one of the most outstanding political leaders of Haiti’s recent history.
