#Obama in #Cuba: How “Political Prisoners” Made the Media Headlines

CubaVANA: In the course of President Obama’s visit to Cuba on March 20–22, 2016, the issue of supposed Cuban “political prisoners” took centre stage in Cuba–US relations for at least 24 hours in much of the international mainstream media.  

The sets of international foreign television outlets were situated on a floor of the emblematic Lonja del Comercio (the fully renovated former Stock Exchange in pre-revolutionary Cuba) overlooking Old Havana. A cacophony of phrases from the reporters about political prisoners emanated from the sets. It seemed that “Obama in Cuba” had become equated with “political prisoners.” The only exception appeared to be TeleSUR, based in Caracas, Venezuela.

#Cuba Starts Second Stage of #Polio Vaccination

The Cuban National Vaccination Campaign against poliomyelitis will begin its second stage today. The vaccination campaign began in 1962. According to official figures, 372,856 of 500,000 children under the age of three, received their first dose of the vaccine in the first stage of vaccinations in February; the rest will be vaccinated during this second stage.

The Rolling Stones are heading to Havana for a historic free concert on Friday and they’ve released a video to mark the occasion. On Tuesday, the group delivered an all-Spanish video message for their fans in Cuba.

A pocos días de su primer concierto en Cuba, los Rolling Stones demuestran hoy sus deseos de tocar en la isla con un video en español. “¡Hola Cuba! Estamos muy felices por tocar para ustedes”, afirmó la voz del líder del conjunto, Mick Jagger. La cita musical, gratuita para la audiencia nacional e internacional, tendrá lugar el viernes en el coliseo deportivo de La Habana y según fuentes oficiales comenzará a las 20:30 hora local y se extenderá durante dos horas y 15 minutos.
